This introductory course introduces students to the dynamic field of outdoor recreation, tracing the evolution of society’s relationship with nature and examining current industry challenges and opportunities. Students explore diverse career pathways in outdoor recreation and learn fundamental skills, including self-care in the outdoors, Leave No Trace ethics, orienteering, backcountry navigation, and risk management. Through hands-on practice, students build outdoor competence and gain insights into conservation practices, leadership, and technical outdoor skills.
