Students in Marketing Education

The marketing program provides students an opportunity to learn about the exciting world of marketing and business in a hands-on, project-based format. Students receive formal classroom instruction and then are provided the opportunity to enhance and utilize these lessons by running their own businesses, working with community businesses and working in the school store. Students receive a number of structured assignments that they can work through at their own pace. Because final grades are based on the number of assignments completed, students need to be able to work on their own and show initiative.

Some of the skills needed to be successful in this program:

  • The ability to conduct oneself in a businesslike and appropriate manner.
  • The ability to work with fellow students and adults on a daily basis in a team.
  • A basic level of computer skills.
  • The ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Membership in Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is recommended.
  • Four young men in formal attire stand in front of a brick wall.

    • Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating market segments plays a significant role in marketing.
    • A marketing plan takes planning and experience to be successful.

DECA is non-profit career-tech organization for high school students who are enrolled in marketing, business, and business related courses. It is a curriculum based, leadership focused organization which offers students a chance to develop their business, entrepreneurial, and management skills as well as develop social and team building capabilities. There are over 700 DECA members in New Hampshire, in chapters located in 20 different high schools and career-tech centers. Throughout the United States and Canada there are more than 201,000 members, and new chapters are opening in Germany, England, and Mexico. DECA also sponsors a program called Collegiate DECA for college students. With a history going back to 1946, DECA has had a major impact on millions of students throughout the years. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools around the globe, but primarily in the United States.

See or Email Hannah Weisberg for more information on joining DECA

  • Advisory committees serve the CTE programs by acting as liaison between the educational institution and the public. The principal purpose for CTE program/advisory committees is to promote greater cooperation between career and technical education and the private sector in preparing individuals for employment, promoting quality career and technical education and making the career technical education system more responsive to the labor market.

CTE program/advisory committees have three major roles. They are to advise, assist and provide support and advocacy for quality career and technical education. It is through these roles that CTE program/advisory committees work with instructors and administrators to initiate policies, procedures and methods that help strengthen and modernize career and technical education.

Improving the quality of career and technical education can be directly linked to the degree of involvement, participation and commitment of the CTE program/advisory committees. If you would like to be involved in shaping the future of education at MWVCTC and have the skills/background to benefit the marketing program, please email Hannah-Jo Weisberg for more information.
