This course is designed to help students develop an understanding of parenting in modern America. Effective parenting skills and research-based strategies for working with children and families will be explored. The course emphasizes parent-child relations, discipline challenges and techniques, family systems theory, communication, and nature/nurture issues in child development. Students will have the opportunity to choose a contemporary issue important to them and develop an action research project that will have an impact on the field.
